presentation of chronic glaucoma
No sxs, visual field decreased, elevated pressure, disc cupping, NI conjunctivae
typical presentation of acute glaucoma
severe pain, vision loss, fixed dilated pupils, ciliary flush (indicates severe problem in anterior chamber), visual fields decreased, elevated pressures.
atypical presentation of acute glaucoma in elderly?
severe HA, abd pain, N/V - may appear to be an ACUTE ABDOMEN!
goal of management of glaucoma
to decrease intra-ocular pressure by reducing secretion and enhancing the outflow of aqueous humor

confusion
Treatment for acute glaucoma
IV acetazolamide
Prevention of glaucoma
Monitor steroids and control DM

complications of glaucoma?
blindness, acute exacerbation
fct of macule
Site of highest visual acuity.

blood supply for macule?
dependent on blood supply from choriocapillaries
Features of macular degeneration
MCC of legal blindness
More common in females
