Hazelwood wanted to write in the school newspaper about teenage pregnancy, but the principal forbade it. The principal allowed other articles to be written as long as they were not biased or prejudiced, unsuitable for immature audiences, or ungrammatical.
What two requirements must be met for something to be considered libel?
It must be false and it must be harmful.
What is false light?
An unflattering and highly offensive portrayal of a person as something that he or she is not.
What is appropriation?
When someone uses a person's photograph, voice, or name without permission for promotion.
What is invasion of privacy?
When certain details, even if true, are considered "off-limits" to the press and the public.
What are the types of intrusion?
Trespassing, secret surveillance, and misrepresentation.
Where do I have access to government documents?
I can access tax forms, court houses, and police forms.
What documents do I not have access to?
Private documents like hospital records or school records for individuals.
What is the importance of copyright?
No one can steal your ideas and/or products for their own profit or use. No one is able to use your copyrighted ideas or products without your permission.
What is composition?
The pleasing selection and arrangement of subjects within the image in photography.
What is line in photography?
It is the path that the eyes of the viewer will follow because of lines created by objects or angles in the picture.
What is the subject?
The subject is the photographer's reason for taking that picture. It should be clearly discernible.
What is a merger?
An object or a line in the background that intersects with the subject in a distracting way, such as a tree or a telephone pole.
What is framing in photography?
Framing is when objects in the picture create a frame around the subject that draw attention.
What is simplicity in composition?
The viewer is not forced to guess what the subject is because the subject is clearly defined, highlighted, or seen.
What is the importance of filling in the frame?
A strong subject is simple and close. There is less background clutter to distract the eye and the background is clearer.
What is the rule of thirds?
The photograph's subject should, when divided into a 3x3 graph, be slightly off center on one of the corners of the middle square.
Why should I give my subjects room to move in my photographs?
This lets the viewer see where the subject is going and where it came from, and creates more interest in the subject.
What are some directions of lighting?
Frontlighting is when light comes form behind the photographer, backlighting is when light comes from behind the subject (often causing silhouettes), and sidelighting is when the light source is to the side of the subject (good for emphasizing depth).
What are the different qualities of light?
Direct is when the light is bright and clear on the subject. Diffused is when the light is soft and more natural.
