The Three Types of Joints
1) Fibrous
2) Cartilaginous

Fibrous Joint
Fibrous- nonsynovial joints joined by fibrous tissue. Minimal to no movement.
Cartilaginous Joint
Joint that has hyaline cartilage or fibrocartilage that connects one bone to another. These are slightly moveable.
Synovial Joint
Provide free movement between the bones they join. They have a joint cavity, articular cartilage, synovial membrane, synovial fluid and a fibrous capsule.
Ankle Joint
A hinge joint formed by the articulation of the tibia and the fibula with the talus.
Knee Joint
Hinge joint formed by the articulation of the tibia and the femur.
Hip Joint
Ball and socket joint formed by the articulation of the femur with the innominate bone. The head of the femur inserts into the dep socket called the acetabulum.
Wrist and Hand Joints
Consists of radiocarpal and midcarpal jointa.
Elbow Joint
Hinge joint involving the humerous, ulna and radius.
Shoulder Joint
Contains the sternoclavicular joint, acromioclavicular joint, glenohumeral joint and scapulothoracic articulation.
