Note: Since "mīlia" is a noun it cannot modify a noun as the adjective "mīlle" does, but must be used with a Partitive Genitive.

Mīlle cīvēs et tria mīlia servōrum hīc habitant.
One thousand citizens and three thousand slaves live here.

But to express the partive idea the Partitive Ablative of Place from Which must be used.

Duo mīlia ex nostrīs quattuor mīlia hostium vīcērunt.
Two thousand of our men conquered four thousand enemies.

Note: A passus, pace, was a measure of distance. There were five feet to a pace and a thousand paces to a mile.

Vīlla mea mīlle passūs ā tuā abest.
My farmhouse is a mile away from yours.

Vīlla mea decem mīlia passuum ā tuā abest.
My farmhouse is ten miles away from yours.

Note: "Salūtem alicui dō" means "I greet someone". The salutation, complimentary close, and signature of a roman letter were all contained int eh first sentence, e.g. "***ō suō Spurius salūtem dat", Spurius greets his dear Titus (Dear Titus, ... Yours truly, Spurius.
