Argues strong govern't is good b/c it will protect Liberty.

#10: mischief of factions. large republic of cometing factions, not one group will have too much power. (creditors, debtors, landowners, non landowners)

#51: seperation of powers. personal intrest often trump intrest of public. seperation of powers stops this from happening.

One of hte greatest challenges facing the Washington Administration was the huge national debt. What did Hamilton suggest as a solution? Who won and who lost in his funding plan? How was a final compormise worked out?
Assumption (pay off all state and national debts 100%)

small farmer lost (he had sold his IOU's)

southern states lose because they've already payed off most of the debt.

compromise was that capital would be moved south out of NY.
What was the Whiskey Rebellion adn why was it such a threat to the new American Govern't
govern't taxes whiskey.

small producers pay more per gallon than large produceers who pay flat rate.

small producers often barter and cannot pay taxes.

decide to halt tax collection.

tax collectors are tared and feathered and barns burnt of those who payed the taxes.

Tax collector John Neville is attacked by 500 rebels. he is being protected and a fight starts. Nevilles house is burned down.

washington ends up having to send troops. when they get close the rebellion is over.

this is a treat to new govern't because there was talk of sucession and could have gotten out of control.
