Who was Jason?
Jason was from Iolcus, his father the king of Iolcus, but was imprisoned by Jason's uncle Pelius
Where was he brought up?
He was brought in the countryside away from danger and looked after by the Centaur, Cheiron
What did Jason want?
Jason asked for his kingdom back, but Pelius told him, he must bring back the Golden Fleece, form the other side of the black sea
What was the Golden Fleece?
The Golden Fleece was from a Ram and had magical powers to cure illness
How did Jason cross the Black Sea?
He had a ship build called 'The Argo'. The 50 handpicked sailors were called Argonauts including Hercules, The twin sons of Zeus, Peleus (father of Achilles) Theseus and Orpheus.
What troubles did they face?
First stop Lemons, inhabited by woman who killed their husbands, Hercules reminded Argonauts to come away
What happened at Mysia?
They were short of water so Hylas went of to get some water but he fell in love with the nymphs, Hercules - friend of Hylas - stayed behind to find him.
What happened at Bosphorus?
The rocks on each side crash together but with the help of a dove they passed through safely.
What did they see at Colchis
They saw the Golden Fleece hanging on a tree by a dragon who never slept.
What did they have to do at Colchis?
King of Colchis said they could have the fleece if they did 3 things; Plough a sacred field with 2 fire breathing bulls, Sow dragons teeth in that field, Fight and kill the army of men that would spring up from the dragons teeth.
What did Medea do to help?
She gave him some ointment to protect him, but in return he had to promise to marry her.
How did Jason fare on the tasks?
He was successful but Medea's father - King Aeates realized his daughter had helped Jason
What the king do next?
The King said he would kill Medea, if Jason took the Golden Fleece. Medea took her little brother and they escaped with the Fleece after putting magic herbs into the eyes of the dragon to put it to sleep.
What did Medea do when she saw her father?
She grabbed her brother and chopped him up and threw the bits into the sea, so that her father would stop chasing them and pick up the bits for a burial.
What did the Argonauts do when they headed home?
They stopped at Crete and killed a giant called Talus, with the archer Poeas who shot the giant in the heal and all the magic blood called Ichor flowed out of him and he died.
What happened to Jason when he got back to Greece?
Jason and Medea went to reclaim the kingdom from Pelius, and the Argonauts dispanded, Pelius had caused Jason's father to commit suicide and hs mother died of a broken heart.
What did Medea do next?
Medea decided to get revenge on Pelius, she persaded Pelius' daughters by telling them that she could make old people young, by cutting up Pelius and throwing him into a calderon. But Medea never cast the spell and therefore Pelius died.
What finally happened to Jason?
Jason did not get his kingdom back as Pelius' son became king, so Jason and Medea fled to the city of Corinth.
What did Jason do Medea?
Jason left Medea for another woman called Creusa daughter of the king of corinth, Medea sent Creusa a wedding dress that burst into falmes and killed her, and Medea killed all of Jason's children, He then spent the rest of his life in misery in Athens and died because the Argo fell on him.
