3 Works that God does for Us:
1) He work FOR US - salvation by grace, through faith in Christ

2) He works IN US - he builds our character as we strive to become more like him

3) he works THROUGH US - we are His ambassadors
Faith =
being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. (Hebrew 11:1)
Living faith =
produces works of love
Dead faith =
produces nothing
Knowledge =
the ability to take things apart
Wisdom =
The right use of knowledge. The ability to put things back together. It comes from God. It helps us to understand how to use trials for our good, and God's glory.
The Sin CYCLE:
1) We have an earthly, evil DESIRES
2) Tests/Temptations arrive
3) We have 2 choices:
A) Respond in a mature way - trust God, pray and be patient. This responce leads to growth, peace, and life.

B) Respond in an immature way depend on yourself, be impatient, worry, etc. We give into temptation which leads to sin. This leads to harm, and death.
Chapter one themes
1) count it joy when you face trials

2) Ask God for Wisdom - and he will give it to you

3) All GOOD things come from God

4) Wise people watch what they say

5) OBEY the WORD that indwells in us (the Gospel)
Chapter two themes
1) Don't show partiality

2) If you have sinned one time you have broken the law, and are in need of God's grace. (Romans 3:23)

3) A person is saved by grace through faith in Christ, NOT by works

4) Justification is by faith alone, but that faith should not be alone

5) Faith without works is dead
Chapter three themes
1) Control your tongue - watch what you say

2) There are two kinds of wisdom:
- FROM ABOVE - pure,submissive, merciful and loving
- FROM THE WORLD - bitter, envy, selfish ambition
Chapter four themes
1) Don't commit spiritual adultery - love God, not the world

2) Humble yourself before the Lord and he will lift you up

3) Draw near to God and He will draw near to you

4) Resist the devil and hew will flee from you

5) Control your tongue - watch what you say

6) Do not boast about tomorrow. Live for Christ today.
