Artificial Intelligence

Refers to ability of computers t imitate human behaviours and thought processes.

Early aims to make computers more useful.

Artificial Intelligent System

A system that takes in data from an input device, e.g. a keyboard or a mouse, and uses it to produce an intelligent response.

Games

Programmed to identify player abilities by altering tactics and strategies to suit the player

Gesture Based Games

Gesture recognition - technology enabling computers to understand human body language

Motion sensing technology - used to read facial expressions/ analyse posture and body movements

Knowledge Base

A centralised repository that contains information which may contain technical information, or solutions related to a particular product or system

Advantages of knowledge bases

- Cheaper for organisations as there is less employee work trying to locate files

- Search button means easier to locate info than in a manual

- Availability of up to date information, any time, anywhere in the world

- Cheaper distribution ad easier maintenance of information

Daemon

An intelligent process that runs in the background of computer programs and attends to tasks without human intervention

E.g. print spoolers, or email handlers

Agent

Similar to daemons but attend to tasks on behalf of a particular user, rather than initiating processes that operate system wide

Expert System

AI System that can provide expert information to decision maker when human expert is not available

Medical Expert Systems

- Diagnosing heart disease

- Detecting blood infections

- Identify tumours

Traffic Navigation Expert Systems

Purpose - to help people with the frustrating problem of traffic congestion

- Users can enter a starting point and a destination and are provided with the best route, travel time, etc.

- Operate by accessing information from roadway sensors & basing info on real time data

Neural Networks

- Designed to solve problems in similar matter to the way human brain works

- Purpose - to detect patterns in data

- Can make future prediction based on samples of data

Computer Vision

Science and technology of machines that have the ability to extract information from images to perform particular tasks
