Hadith
Muslim way of life as described by Muhammad. One of the sources of Islamic law.
Sunnah
The normative way of life for Muslims, practice and traditions of Muhammad and the teachings of the Koran.
Hirjah
Immigration of Muhammad from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE

Shahada

Believe that Muhammad's family and Imans have spiritual and political rule over the community. Believe that Ali was the first of the three Imams and was the rightful successor to Muhammad.
Ali
Muhammad's cousin and son-in-law. Ruled Caliphate from 656 to 661. Cause of the split between Sunni and Shi'ites.

African American muslims, followed Malcolm X in America. Not always accepted as part of the community

The veiling of women for the sake of modesty

Time of fasting, the holiest month in the Islamic faith. The 9th month.
