Red flags:
-anemia
-fever
-PERSISTANT diarrhea
*rule out colon cancer
IBS care
-based on symptoms and severity
-use diet, fiber (psyllium/metamucil) - 20g/day, antispasmotics, antidiarrheal, laxatives... SSRIs for pain/stress/anxiety
antispasmodics
anticholinergics (SE dry mouth, urine retention, tachi)
-take before meals
-Bentyl
antidiarrheal
immodium - dont use if a bacterial infection - make sure its just IBS first.
lotronix
5HT receptor blocker (serotonin block/antagonist)
-for diarrhea
-FDA approved in women only
-for the severe pain
-use if other tx is unsuccessful
