What raw materials is used in the iron extraction process?
Haematite (iron ore), coke, limestone
What is coke used for?
Gets oxidsed by oxygen to produce carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and heat
What is limestone used for?
Gets decomposed by heat to form calcium oxide (lime) which reacts with silicon oxide in the ore to form slag
What is carbon monoxide used for?
Used to reduce iron (III) oxide to form iron and carbon dioxide.
