In 1989 Iraq invaded Kuwait in an effort annex it and its rich oil reserves. The USA swiftly defeated Iraq, but did not remove Saddam Hussein from power.
Why did the USA again attack Iraq in 2002? What was the outcome?
President George W. Bush (and others) felt that Saddam Hussein possessed weapons of mass destruction and constituted an imminent threat to the USA.
How has the USA been involved in Iraq since that attack?
U.S. military forces and a relatively small number of troops from other countries have occupied Iraq, searched for WMDs, and called for democratic elections to take place in January of 2005.
