What is the equation for Force?
F=ma
What is the name of the unit for measuring force?
Newtons (N)
What is the equation for Speed?
S=d/t Speed is equal to distance divided by time

The units are meters per second or m/2
What is the equation for work?
Work is equal to force x distance. W=fd

What is the unit of measurement for Work?
newton-meter's or joules
Definition of Force:
simply push or pull, it is equal to f=ma
How many types of forces are there? Name them.
2 types - balanced and unbalanced
What are the two things you need to know to describe force?
1. The size or strength of the force
2. The direction of the force
Motion - describe it
When something moves
Gravity-describe it
A type of force of attraction between all objects in the universe - Things fall back to the Earth surface because of gravity. For example, if you are holding an American Girl doll and you drop her, she falls to the floor
Who was Sir Issac Newton
He was a person who wondered why all objects fell to the ground. He hypothesized that there is a force that makes all objects move toward each other.
What is Newton's Law of Gravity?
The idea that there is a force that makes all objects move toward each other.
Newton's 1st Law of Motion
An object will remain at rest or move at a constant speed in a straight line unless it is acted on by an unbalanced force.
Newton's 2nd Law of Motion
The unbalanced force acting on an object is equal to the mass of the object times its accelleration. F=ma
Newtons 3rd Law of Motion
For every action force, there is an equal and opposite reaction force
Motion is caused by....
Force - It takes force to cause motion. For example, you can't get a ball to move unless you hit it or kick it.
What is the definition of balanced force?
Forces that are equalin size and oppositein direction. Remember, if balanced forces act on an object, they don't make the object move.
Define unbalanced forces
Unequal forces cause a change in the objects motion
Net force -What is it?
The total of the forces action on an object.
What is the equation for Force?
Force = mass x acceleration
F=ma
what is MASS?
Mass is anything that has matter and takes up space - like me or a chair or water or gass
What is the smallest unit of matter? What is the smallest thing that takes up space?
Atom
What are the three subatomic particles in an atom?
Protons, neutrons, and electrons
Which part of an atom, which subatomic particle is positive and found in the nucleas of the atom?
protons
Define a proton?
A proton is a subatomic particle in an atom. It has a positive charge and is found in the nucleus of the atom.
Define a neutron?
A neutron is neutral and has no charge at all it is found inside the nucleus of an atom
What is an electron?
Electrons have a negative change and are found OUTSIDE of a the nucleus of the atom orbiting in the electron cloud
Reference point
A fixed place or object used to determine if an object is in motion
Speed
How fast something moves - It is distance traveled per unit of time
What is the SI unit for measuring distance?
Meters (m)
Draw an atom and label the protons, neutrons and electrons
draw
Describe an example of Newton's 1st law
describe
Describe an example of Newton's second law
describe
Describe an example of Newton's third law
describe
What is a Newton?
A newton is the unit for measuring Force. F=ma
Define Velocity
Speen in a given direction 25 km/hr east
25mph Is that a speed or a velocity?
speed
25 mph west Is that a speed or a velocity
velocity.
True or False:
When unbalanced forces act on a moving object, the motion of the object will stay the same
False
True or False: An example of magnetic force is a paperclip sticking to a magnet
True
What is motion?
Motion is when something moves. Motion is when an object changes in position relative to some fixed object
Inertia
The tendency of a body to resist acceleration
Reference point
A place or object used to determine if an object is in motion.
Motion is when the distance between two objects:
a) gets larger
b) gets smaller
c) changes
d) stays the same
e) all of the above
f) b,c, and d
g) a, b,and c
g
Stationary object
an object that does not appear to be in motion
centripetal force
the type of force that keeps objects moving in a circle
What is the unit of measure for force?
Newton
Define kinetic
The energy of motion
What is the formula for momentum?
momentum is p
p=mass x velocity

Momentum depends on the mass and velocity of an object.
accelleration
The rate at which velocity changes over time.
inertia
the tendency of a moving object to keep moving
Mass
amount of matter in an object
weight
amount of force exerted on an object due to gravity
How do you figure out average speed
The total distance traveled divided by the total time.
define Instantaneous speed
The rate at which an object is moving at a given instant in time
Explain graphing motion and draw a picture with labels for time, distance, with a slope
On a motion graph, the x axis is time. The y axis is distance. The slope tells how fast one variable changes compared to the other variable
If the slope is steep on a motion graph is the object moving fast or slow
fast
With what force will a car hit a tree if the car has a mass of 2000 kg and is accelerating at a rate of 2m/s?
show your work
A 10 kg bowling ball would require what force to accelerate it down an alleyway at a rate of 3m/s?
show your work
What is the mass of a falling rock if it hists the ground with a force of 147 newtons?
show your work
What is the acceleration of a softball if it has a mass of 0.50 kg and hits the catcher's glove with a force of 25 newtons?
show your work
What is the mass of a truck ifit is accelerating at a rate of 5 m/s and hits a parked car with a force of 14,000 newtons?
show your work
Forces are described by
a) strength
b) distance
c) direction
d) a and c
e) b and c
f) a, b, and c
d
Do balanced forces acting on an object make the objects motion change?
No
What is the result of unbalanced forces acting on an object
Unbalanced forces acting on an object result in NET FORCE and that cause a CHANGE in the objects motion
Netforce = 0

If netforce is equal to 0 is it a balanced force or an unbalanced force acting onthe object?
balanced
Netforce is not equal to zero. What kind of force is acting on the object
unbalanced
Which type of force causes an object's motion to change?
unbalanced force
which type of force causes a net force of 0
balanced force
Define net force

You can describe a force using arrows. I see two arrows. One is long and one is short. Which force is stronger?
The long arrow
