The part of the Earth - atmosphere, hydrosphere and geosphere that is inhabited by living organisms. |

Evolutionary processes - species extinction, evolution and migration. Climate change - atmospheric gases, precipitation, temperature, wind speed, etc. Plate tectonics - volcanic activity, landslides, sea levels, island formation, etc. Human activity - hunting/gathering, deforestation, crop growing and land drainage. |

Planting native tree species preserves the native trees and allows other species to grow under-storey increasing local biodiversity. |
