Science
A process that uses logic, observations and prior knowledge to solve problems
Scientific Method
A process of doing Science
Observations
Something you notice about your surroundings using any senses
Purpose
A question you ask about observations you made
Hypothesis
A possible answer to the question that must be testable based on logic, observations, and prior knowledge; explains hypothesis
Experiment
Testing of you hypothesis by using data
Analysis & Conclusion
Evaluating data to see if hypothesis is correct, often using graphs
Repeat
Repeat your experiment even if data supports hypothesis to make sure you get the same answer each time
Theory
Used to explain observations and facts with large amounts of evidence; tested mult. times by mult. people
Quantitative Observations
Involve taking measurements, such as temp, mass, size, distance, velocity, ect. Any numerical observation
Qualitative Observations
Involve describing properties that may be used to identify it, such as color, smell, fell, texture, etc.
Direct Observations
Things you observe by seeing/watching
Indirect Observations
Things detected with your senses
Inference
Something you assume to be true based on observation & prior knowledge
Variable
Conditions you change during experiments
Dependent Variable
Variable that changes as result of independent variable, variable you don't have control
Controlled Experiment
An experiment that tests effects of one independent variable at a time
Control Group
Independent variable isn't changed to provide a comparison, conditions set to "normal"
Experimental Group
Independent variable is changed & results compared to control group
Metric System
The universal measurement used by scientists. Used all over the world, based off the number 10
Meter
Length, usually measured by metric stick or metric ruler
Liter
Volume, measured by graduated cylinder or beaker
Gram
Mass, usually measured by a scale or balance
Independent Variable
Variable you change, you have direct control
