Science
Science is a process of using logic and prior knowledge to solve problems. Also, does not need to be a lab experiment.
Scientific Method
The process of doing science.
Observation
Something you detect in your enviroment with any of your senses.
Purpose
A question used to figures out something about your observation.
Hypothesis
A possible logical explanation to your question that is testable.
Experiment
Testing your hypothesis by testing and recording data, possibly in a data table.
Analysis and Conclusion
Evaluating and interpreting your data to decide whether or not your hypotheses was correct, graphs are often used.
Repeat
Repeating your experiment whether your hypothesis was correct or not. If your hypothesis is incorrect then when repeating you create a new hypothesis.
Theory
Used to explain a great amount of facts and observations which have been tested multiple times and have a good amount of evidence.
Quantitative Observations
Observation that involve taking measurements such as temperature, mass, size, or anything that has to do with numbers.
Qualitative Observations
Observations that describe the general appearance and properties such as color, feel, smell and texture.
Direct Observations
Observations that you make using sight.
Indirect Observations
Observations you make with any other sense besides sight.
Inferences
Something you assume to be true based on prior knowledge and/or observations.
Variables
At least two conditions in every experiment that can change during the the experiment.
Independent Variable
The variable that the researcher has direct control of.
Dependent Variable
The variable the researcher does not have control; changes because of the indirect variable.
Controlled Experiment
Experiment where everything is kept constant so that you can test the results one independent variable at a time.
Control Group
Variable is not changed during experiment, everything is set to normal. Used to that yo can test the results of one independent variable at a time.
Experimental Group
Independent Variable is changed, results are compared to control group results.
Metric System
System of measurement used all over the world by scientists based on the number 10.
Meter
Metric unit measuring length.
Liter
Metric unit measuring volume.
Gram
Metric unit measuring weight.
