Pathophysiology of Tetanus
modulation of LMN firing frequency modifies tension in a muscle. with incr frequency of firing the muscle has less and less time to repolarize/hyperpolarize or relax which leads to a state of tetany due to continuous firing stimulating continuous contraction with no/little reprieve to relax. tetanus is the saturation point that is reached with high freq firing (tension single twitches are summated) so that the muscle is cramped.
Size Recruitment principle of motor contraction
small motor units (innervate fewer muscles) are recruited to contract first when a load is initally place on the msucle. Then, larger motor unit are recruited as requirement for additional force is placed on the muscle. (sensory feedback from stretch receptors is imp for this mech to work)
