Which one of these two does not use X-Rays:
MRI
Computed Tomography
MRI
X-rays work by being [...] by some tissues more than others
Absorbed
In X-ray negative images, air will appear
black
From White to Black, order the way these would appear in an x-ray: Bone, Muscle, Fat, Air, Metal. (Assuming x-ray negative)
Air, Fat, Muscle, Bone, Metal
When looking at an X-ray, their left is on your [...]
Right.
Radiodense refers to
the inability of radiation to pass through a particular material.
Which one is more radiodense, metal or air?
Metal
Something is radiolucent if
it permits the passage of x-rays
Severe bilateral pneumonia can be identified in an x-ray because
it is spread within the substance of the lungs. All of the lungs take on the same look (sort of gray-ish)
Wedge shaped pneumonia can be identified in an x-ray because
Fluid is produced only in a small space.
What is pneumothorax?
Pneumothorax is an abnormal collection of air or gas in the pleural space separating the lung from the chest wall
How can pneumothorax be identified in an x-ray?
Lung will be collapsed and look white, the rest of the space on the same side will look black - air.
What is the defining characteristic of Tension Pneumothorax?
It allows air to move into pleural space but NOT to back out. Very dangerous.
how can hemothorax be identified in an x-ray?
Hemothorax is blood in pleural space. The x-ray shows a uniform white where the blood is (blood - soft tissue coloring)
How can emphysema be identified in x-ray?
Diaphragm sits very, very low (air gets trapped in the lung - the trouble is with exhaling)
How can situs inversus be identified in an x-ray?
Normal rotation of organs is reversed. You could see heart and stomach on right side.
In an x-ray positive image, dense is
black
Radiopaque contrast media that helps see GI track?
Barum
Radiopaque contrast media that helps see circulation
Iodinated contrast
In a CT scan, the patient's feet are [...] you and the patients left is to your [...]
forward
right
In a CT scan metal and bone appear [...]
white. Muscle and Fat are gray-ish, air is black.
Bullous disease can be identified because
there are big empty spaces in the Lung Windows (CT scan)
What is MRI good for?
Soft tissue contrast - used for viewing CNS, ortho injuries, cardiac, breast, body
Would you get an MRI to look at the thorax?
No. Only for ligaments, nervous system, tendons, etc.
T1-weighted image (MRI)
Myelin is bright, fluid is dark
T2-weighted image (MRI)
Myelin is dark, fluid is bright
