What are diversion programs?
Diversion programs are used in lieu of incarceration. They divert potential inmates from incarceration in overcrowded prisons to treatment facilities within the community and aim to address the issues that caused the problem.

What does “student-life services” mean?
The field of student-life services is a cluster of diverse specialties, which may include admissions, learning services, health and wellness services, food services, financial aid, women’s center, residence life, academic advising, international students, global education, registration, and career services. Thus, student-life professionals have rich opportunities to develop meaningful relationships with students, and they are also at the forefront of developing activities to unite the campus community.
The graduate training programs of student-life services are usually housed within the counselor education program. The name of the degree programs may be called Student Affairs, Student Personnel Work in Higher Education, or a similar title.
Student-life professionals maybe work in Career Services Office or Student Services Office in the college/university depending on school’s policy.
What do rehabilitation counselors do?
• Rehabilitation counselors specialize in working with clients who are identified as having a recognized disability, which substantially limits at least one major life activity (American with Disabilities Act). The disabilities include physical, mental, developmental, cognitive, and emotional impairment.
• The intent of rehabilitation counseling is to facilitate the independence, integration, and inclusion of people with disabilities.
• Work setting: mental health agencies, correctional facilities, schools, hospitals, state/privately supported rehabilitation agencies, counseling clinics.
Examples of rehab counselors
1. Working with family members of children who have a Autism Spectrum Disorder.
2. Counseling college/university students who have a disability.
3. Serving adolescents/adults who have an addiction. There are two techniques can be used: (Motivational interviewing, Stage of change)
4. Assisting individuals who have survived a traumatic event.
5. Rehabilitating individuals who have a chronic mental illness.
6. Vocational rehabilitation counseling.
