Steps to graph a linear equation
1.) Select a value for one variable and calculate the corresponding value of the other variable. Form an ordered pair using alphabetical order as indicated by the variables.
2.) Repeat step #1 to obtain at least two other ordered pairs. Two points are essential to determine a straight line. A third point serves as a check. 3.) Plot the ordered pairs and draw a straight line passing through the points. |

y-INTERCEPT
The graph of the equation y=mx+b passes through the y-intercept (0,b)
What principle is used to graph an equation in which y is not isolated?
Addition and Multiplication principles to solve for y. (Section 2.3)
In addition to using y= mx + b, what other technique can be used to graph Ax + By = C
Intercepts
How do you find intercepts?
Solve Ax + By = C twice. On the first pass, substitute 0 for x and solve. On the second, substitute 0 for y and solve. To check, apply a different number to x and solve.
