What is SEVIS?

Web based system for maintaining info on International students and exchange visitors in the US. A technology used by Department of Homeland Security.

What is the purpose of SEVIS?

Tracks and monitors nonimmigrant students and exchange visitors. Helps ensure proper reporting and record keeping by schools.

What is an F-1 non-immigrant?

A foreign student coming to the US for school.

What is an i-20?

Certificate of eligibility for international student. Need it to apply for Visa and to pass customs in US.

Where does a student get an I-20?

Receives it from designated school official once the student is accepted to the school.

How does student get a Visa?

Take the I-20 and apply for a Visa at their US embassy or consulate outside of US. Must apply 120 days before the date on the I-20.

Can an international student enter the country before the start date on the I-20?

Yes. Up to 30 days before the start date on the I-20.

What type of Visa does an international student get?

Type F.
