The General Assembly

General Assembly elects a GA President once a year; the current GA President is Peter Thomson. The only UN body with universal representation; all 193 members have representation. Main policy-making organ. |

Presidency of the Security Council rotates and changes every month. The Security Council has 15 members; 5 permanent and 10 non-permanent. Each member has one vote. The 5 permanent members have "power of veto". Takes lead in determining the existence of a threat to peace or an act of aggression. |

The Economic and Social Council

54 members; elected by the General Assembly for 3-year terms. Principal body for coordination, policy review, policy dialogue, and recommendations on economic, social and environmental issues. |

International Court of Justice

The President is Ronny Abraham. 15 judges; elected to 9-year terms by General Assembly and Security Council. Principal judicial organ; responsible for settling legal disputes submitted by States and answering advisoruy opinions on legal questions. |
