What is a pressure group?

A pressure group is a group of people that attempt to influence parliament to legislate on an issue which they have an interest in.

List the main methods used by pressure groups to promote their campaign.

Lobbying MPs (meeting an MP in the lobby of parliament), marches, demonstrations, publicity campaigns, leaflets and media coverage.

What are the two main types of pressure group?

'Sectional' groups and 'cause' groups.

What do sectional groups do?
|
They exist to further the interests of a certain section or group of people in society.

What do cause groups do?
|
They promote a particular ideal or belief.

What are the advantages of pressure groups?
