Chronic inflammation of the GI tract. Categorised into Chron’s disease of ulcerative colitis based on signs and symptoms |

Outline the pathophysiology of ulcerative colitis |
Multiple abscesses develop in the intestinal glands - abscesses break, leaving ulcerations. Ulceration destroy mucosal endothelium - causing bleeding and diarrhoea. Granulation tissue develops. |

Bloody diarrhoea and abdominal pain |

UC - 15/25 years CD - 15/30 years |
