What is Theater Level Intelligence?

- Non- Navy Asset the commander can use.

- Can be a National agency

- Combat Command JIOC (Joint Intelligence Operations Center) are the primary intelligence organizations to support joint forces at the operational and tactical levels.

What is Fleet Level Intelligence?

- Produce intelligence assessments on nations of concern's military forces and maritime movements

- Event Briefings

- Debriefings

What are the 11 bands of the electromagnetic Spectrum?

- ELF: Extremely Low Freq. 3-30Hz

- SLF: Super Low Freq. 30-300Hz

- ULF: Ultra Low Freq. 300-3000Hz

- VLF: Very Low Freq. 3kHz-30kHz

- LF: Low Freq. 30-300kHz

- MF: Medium Freq. 300kHz-3MHz

- HF: High Freq. 3-30MHz

- VHF: Very High Freq. 30-300MHz

- UHF: Ultra High Freq. 300MHz-3GHz

- SHF: Extremely Low Freq. 3-30GHz

- EHF: Extremely High Freq. 30-300GHz

Define Frequency.

- Number of Cycles that happen in 1 second.

- Normally expressed in Hertz.

Define Wavelength.
- Distance between 2 peaks in the waves of a signal.
Define Ducting.

- The increase in range a wave will travel due to temperature inversion of the lower atmosphere.

- The Temp creates a channel or "Duct" that the wave can travel in. It can become trapped.

- Can also cause a great increase in expected range.

Define Refraction.

- The bending of electromagnetic waves.

- Caused by a change in density of medium which waves pass through.

- Think of how a straw looks broken at the top of a glass of water.

Define Multiplexing.
- Simultaneous transmission of 2 or more signals over a common carrier wave.
What are the 3 layers of the Earth's atmosphere?

- Troposphere: From surface up to 11.2 miles up. Almost all weather happens here.

- Stratosphere: Between the Tropo and Iono. Little to no effect on radio waves. Constant temp and little water vapor.

- Ionosphere: from 30-250 miles up. Most important region of atmosphere for long distance COMS.

What does RADAR stand for?
- RAdio Detection And Ranging
Explain Air Search RADAR.

- Detect and Position information of air targets in a large area.

- Can exceed 300 miles range.

- Covers a 360-degree circle.

- Used for early warning for aircraft or missiles.

Explain Surface Search RADAR.

- Detects Surface and low-flying aircraft

- Used as a navigational aid.

- 360-degree search pattern within LOS from antenna.

Explain Fire Control RADAR.

- Produces a very narrow, circular beam.

- Has 3 phases

- Designation Phase: General location of target because of narrow beam.

- Acquisition Phase: Searches a small volume of space in a prearranged pattern until target is found.

- Tracking Phase: Once target is located it is tracked

Define Transmission Mode Half Duplex (HDX):

- Involves a shared transmission medium.

- Can support communication in each direction but not at the same time.

- Like Walkie-Talkies

Define Transmission Mode Full Duplex (FDX):

- Transmission in 2 directions at the same time.

- Like a Phone

Define Transmission Mode Simplex (SPLX):

- Transmission in 1 direction only.

- Like a TV or Radio

What does METOC stand for?
- Meteorology and Oceanography
How does METOC support the ID Mission?
- Provides Meteorology and Oceanography (METOC), Bathymetry and Hydrography (Bathy/Hydro), Precise Time and Astrometry (PTA), products and services that enable effective decision-making for operational safety, war fighting success by Naval Forces and securities.
what does NMOC stand for?
- Naval Meteorology and Oceanography Command
