a political ideology that developed after the French Revolution that desired to preserve the monarchical and noble systems of governance in Europe. Use of Christian ideology to ensure political rights of a hereditary monarchy that is sanctioned by religion. Desire to see social and political order maintained through use of noble and monarchical privileges.

radical idea that developed after 1815 and Congress of Vienna.

Socialism

political and social ideology that developed from concerns about industrialization and the conditions of the working classes. Different kinds of socialists: Utopian socialists (mostly from France) developed a critique of industrialization and liberal economic policies. Practical socialists believed that the workers were the real producers due to their labor. In general, socialists believed in gradual social, economic, and work change brought on by government.

Communism

political and social ideology that developed from socialism and concerns about the working classes. Ideology in which there is (and always was) a struggle between the working and the middle classes and that the working classes will eventually win over the middle classes. Desire to see immediate change or a revolution through violent overthrow of current governmental system.

Feminism

Feminism

political and social ideology developed from ideas of liberalism and socialism and firmly based in the middle classes. Idea that relations between the sexes should be based on equality and that men and women should have equal access to education, politics, and healthcare. Different kinds of feminism based on different desires: some simply wished to achieve the right to vote, others wanted more radical changes in the government and social systems (birth control, equality under the law and in marriage).
