Intimate distance Zone

Closest range of personal space, from the point of being able to touch up to about 6-18 inches

Personal distance zone

12 inches to 2 1/2 Feet ; 2 1/2 to 4 Feet

Empathy

Acceptance of the client that allows the helper to see the situation or understand the feelings from the client's perspective

Social Distance Zone

4 to 12 Feet of distance, business, structure interacting with people according to their role in transaction, touch is not possible and or not really appropriate or acceptable

The public distance zone

12-25 Feet, when people are unequal status or when dealing with an important public speaker or at a formal speaking arrangement

A space that we share with others, may only use it for a short period of time less critical to our comfort than a primary territory but we still may feel attachment to it. ex. basketball court, neighborhood park, local senior center

The places where people come and go all the time, ex. city street train station bus station

Nonprofessional helpers

Individuals that engage in helping with little training and agency responsibility

Physicians

Medical doctors who provide examinations, diagnose illnesses, treat injured or diseased people and advise patients on maintaining good health

Psychiatrist

Psysician charged with the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of mental illness

Psychologists

Helping professionals who have advanced degrees in the study of human behavior and who provide counseling, preform assessments and conduct research in that field

Self Help Groups
