Types of Maps
Equal Area - areas are in correct proportion to earths reality.
- tradoff = shape is distorted
Conformal Projections - shapes of small areas are accurately portrayed
- Tradeoff = area is distorted
Equidistant Projections - Distances are true in all directions from one or two central points
- tradeoff: distance between all other locations are incorrect.
Azimuthal - directions are true from one central point to another.
-tradeoff: all other points are not accurate.
Robinson - in between equal area and conformal
- tradoff: does not show true distance.
Formal Region
has a shared trait, can be a shared cultural or physical trait.

For example, region of europe where french is spoek can be thought of as a french speaking region but when the scale shifts , the formal region changes and from a world view, we can add french colonies.
Functional Region
defined by a particular set of activities that occur within it. Have a shared political, social, or economic purpose

intellectual constructs designed to help us understand the nature and distribution of phenomena in human geography.
