Define heritability
Amount of phenotypic variation among people because of variation in the genotype.
Do important traits usually have high or low heritability?
Low-- because there has been strong selective pressure for those traits to be functional
As variation decreases because of selection, does environmental influence increase or decrease?
Increase!
When heritability is closer to 0 than 1, what does that mean?
Less variation is attributable to the genotype
Can heritability answer the % of variation among people due to genes instead of the environment?
Yes, but it can't tell that % for individuals
Why is heritability higher in kids and babies?
Because they haven't finished developing and haven't had a lot of environmental influence yet.
