What are organelles? Give examples

Structures suspended in the cytoplasm that carry out particular functions. Some examples are mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes and nucleus.

Describe the function of the mitochondria.

The mitochondria is the powerhouse of the cell, it creates energy through respiration.

Describe the function of Endoplasmic Reticulum

To transport synthesized proteins

Function of Ribosomes

Makes protein from amino acids

Function of the nucleus

The cells genetic material

What is the importance of the large gaps in the nuclear membrane

Allows molecules to enter the nuclear membrane

What is a vesicle? Describe two ways a vesicle can be formed?

Bubbles of liquid in the cytoplasm surrounded by a membrane. Formed at the edges of the membrane of the Golgi body others form when particles or liquids are taken into the cell.

Give two examples of inclusions

Haemoglobin in red blood cells and pigment melanin

Why are cells microscopic

It creates a larger surface area for substances to pass through the cell making the exchange of materials occur faster.

How is the shape of a human cell maintained

the framework of protein fibres
