What does the self-help industry have to offer?
The self-help industry offers quick fixes, simple recipes and lets you in on secrets "the secret". Some do offer good information, but many do not live up to their promises, and have not been tested.
Why are self-help industries so popular?
Good marketing, they fit with the "spirit of our times" authority of the author, and they fit with what we have heard and what we like. Most people do not understand the importance of a scientific approach.
