Summit conference between the Big Three (Churchill, Stalin, and Roosevelt) at Yalta in the Soviet Union in Feb. 1945. Divided Germany and Berlin into different war zones, agreed in denazification. Considered the beginning of the Cold War.
Yalta
Also known as the European Recovery Program (1947). Insisted that the economy of Europe must be returned to prosperity to fight communism. Was open to all European nations but Eastern European nations we forced to reject it by Stalin. Led to vast economic advancements in the West, but also ensured an American influence in the rebuilding of Europe. By the early 1950s, the United States had sent more than $12 billion in food, equipment, and services to reduce communist appeal.
Marshall Plan
Night of the broken glass. Nov. 9-10, 1938. A riot against Jews that attacked their shops, homes, and synagogues. Was significant because it was the first time that Hitler had made official governmental action aim as a direct attack at Jews.
Kristallnacht
Sept. 1935. Established legalbasis for anti-semantic discrimination. Law for protection of German Blood and Honor. Non-Aryans could not have sexual relationships with Aryans. Reich Citizenship Law. Set up distinctions betwene Aryan citizens and non-Aryan subjects. Significant because it cause debate as to who was Jewish and non-Jewish and had driven a wedge between "Germans" and non Germans.
