What is checks and balances?
Theory that the three branches of the U.S. government will limit each others power so as to prevent the government from becoming a tyranny that deprives citizens of their freedom.
What is separation of powers?
The theory that each branch of the U.S. government has distinct powers, and that the three branches need not overlap.
What is the Legislative branch?
The branch of government which writes
laws,consisting of the House of representatives, and the Senate.

The branch of government that administers or executes the laws, headed by the president.
