What are rods?
Rods are photoreceptors in the eye that do do not differentiate between colors and high levels of detail. However, rods make up our peripheral vision and allow us to see in low light.
What are cones?
Cones are photoreceptors in the eye that allow us to differentiate between colors (though they only "see" red, green, and blue) and high amounts of detail. They are located in highest concentration in the fovea centralis of the macula lutea.
What is vitreous humor?
Vitreous humor is a jelly-like substance located within the posterior chamber of the eye. One of its functions is to hold the neural tunic against the vascular tunic.
What is the lacrimal gland?
The lacrimal gland is located superior to the lateral rectus of each eye. It secretes tears that lubricate and provide nutrients to the eye.
What is the function of the macula lutea?
The macula lutea receives the photographic image captured by the eye. Within center of the macula lutea is the fovea centralis, which contains the largest concentration of cones in the eye. Additionally, the image is upside-down when it arrives at the macula lutea.
List the layers of the eye and their functions from deepest to most superficial.
The retina, or neural tunic: contains nervous tissue and visual photoreceptors (i.e. rods and cones).

The choroid layer or tunic:
vascular layer of the eye.

The sclera:
the "white of the eye". The sclera is composed of collagen and elastin and is the most difficult layer of the eye to cut.

The cornea:
the outer covering of the iris. Contains the stroma, the thickest layer of the cornea and the colored portion of the iris.
What is the fluid in the anterior chamber of the eye called? the fluid in the posterior chamber?
The fluid located within the anterior chamber of the eye is aqueous humor. The fluid located within the posterior chamber of the eye is called vitreous humor.
