MAIN CONDENSER

DECREASE THE TURBINE EXHAUST PRESSURE BY EXTRACTING LATENT HEAT OF VAPORIZATION FROM THE TURBINE EXHAUST SYSTEM. WHICH CREATES A NEGATIVE PRESSURE AREA IN THE CONDENSER RESULTING IN AN INCREASE IN TURBINE THERMAL EFFICIENCY

CONDENSATE PUMPS

REMOVE THE ACCUMULATED CONDENSATE FROM THE CONDENSER HOTWELL AND DISCHARGES IT TO NO. 3 DEAERATING HEATER THROUGH THE INTER AND AFTER CONDENSERS, GLAND SEAL STEAM CONDENSER, AND THE LOW PRESSURE FEEDWATER HEATERS 1 AND 2. THEY ALSO SUPPLY CONDENSATE TO THE SEAL WATER HEAD TANK, THE BEARING COOLING WATER HEAD TANK, TURBINE EXHAUST HOOD SPRAYS, SEAL STEAM ATTEMPORATOR, ACID CLEANING STATION, ( UNIT 1 ONLY ) AND THE CHEM FEED SYSTEM.

INTER AND AFTER CONDENSERS

THE INTER-CONDENSER CONDENSES THE STEAM FROM THE PRIMARY JETS, THE AFTER-CONDENSER CONDENSES STEAM FROM THE SECONDARY JETS. THE CONDENSED JET DRAINS ARE RETURNED TO THE MAIN STEAM CONDENSER HOTWELL BY WAY OF SEPARATE LEVEL REGULATORS

GLAND SEAL STEAM CONDENSER

CONDENSES THE STEAM FROM THE TURBINE OUTER STEAM SEALS. THE EXHAUST BLOWERS CREATE A LOW PRESSURE AREA TO INSURE THE FLOW OF GLAND LEAK-OFF TO THE GLAND STEAM CONDENSER.

L.P. HEATERS 1&2

SUPPLY THE INITIAL AND SECONDARY HEATING OF THE WATER WHILE IN THE CONDENSATE SYSTEM.

DEAERATING FEEDWATER HEATER 3

AN OPEN TYPE DIRECT CONTACT HEATER DESIGNED TO REMOVE NON-CONENSABLE GASES WHILE ADDING HEAT TO THE CONDENSATE. THE STORAGE SECTION AT ITS ELEVATION PROVIDES SUFFICIENT VOLUME AND SUCTION HEAD REQUIRED BY THE BOILER FEED PUMPS.

BOILER FEED PUMPS

SUPPLY SUFFIECIENT FEEDWATER TO MAINTAIN A NORMAL OPERATING LEVEL IN THE BOILER DRUM. THE FEEDWATER FLOW IS VIA THE HIGH PRESSURE FEEDWATER HEATERS, AND ALSO SUPPLIES THE MAIN AND REHEAT STEAM ATTEMPORATORS, AND THE REBOILER SURGE TANK MAKE UP.

H.P. HEATERS 4, 5, & 6

TRANSFERS THERMAL ENERGY FROM THE BLEED STEAM TO THE FEEDWATER, PRODUCING AN INCREASE IN STEAM CYCLE EFFICIENCY BY REDUCING THE AMOUNT OF BTU'S NECESSARY TO ACHIEVE BOILER DESIGN PRESSURE AND TEMPERATURE.

BOILER

SUPPLIES STEAM AT DESIGN PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, AND QUALITY ON DEMAND TO DRIVE THE TURBINE.

TURBINE

PROVIDES THE MEANS FOR CONVERTING KENETIC ENERGY OF STEAM INTO MECHANICAL ENERGY TO, DRIVE THE MAIN GENERATOR THUS PRODUCING ELECTRICAL ENERGY.

L.P. HEATER DRAIN PUMP

MAINTAINED THE LEVEL IN HEATER 1 BY A REGULATOR CONTROLLING THE HEATER DRAIN PUMP WHICH DISCHARGES TO THE CONDENSATE PIPING BETWEEN THE L.P. HEATERS.

H.P. HEATER DRAIN PUMP

MAINTAINED THE LEVEL IN THE FLASH TANK BY DIAPHRAM OPERATED CONTROL VALVE. THE DRAINS ARE DISCHARGED TO THE BOILER FEED PUMPS SUCTION.

MAKE-UP AND DRAW-OFF SYSTEM

MAINTAIN THE MAIN STEAM CONDENSER HOTWELL AT THE CORRECT LEVEL. THE CORRECT LEVEL IS 10 TO 12 IN THE HOTWELL. THE VALVES ARE OPERATED BY A SINGLE TRANSMITTER. THE MAKE-UP VALVE OPENS ON LOW-LEVEL TO DRAW WATER INTO THE CONDENSER HOTWELL FROM THE CONDENSATE STORAGE TANK. THE DRAW-OFF VALVE OPENS ON HIGH LEVEL TO REMOVE WATER FROM THE CONDENSER HOTWELL AND CONDENSATE SYSTEM, TO THE CONDENSATE STORAGE TANK. VIA THE CONDENSATE SUPPLY AND RETURN HEADER.

DEAERATING LEVEL CONTROL VALVE

PROVIDED TO MAINTAIN A CONTINUOUS WATER LEVEL IN HEATER 3. NORMAL LEVEL OF 8 FEET 6 INCHES IS MAINTAINED IN THE HEATER 3 STORAGE TANK.

CONDENSATE PUMP RECIRCULATION VALVE

IS DESIGNED TO PROVIDE MINIMUM FLOW THROUGH THE CONDENSATE PUMPS, INTER AND AFTER CONDENSERS, AND THE GLAND SEAL STEAM CONDENSER. THE VALVE WILL OPEN AUTOMATICALLYIF A CONDENSATE PUMP IS RUNNING AND THE CONDENSATE FLOW IS LESS THAN 250,000 LBS/HR. THE VALVE WILL CLOSE FLOW OF 425,000 LBS/HR. THE VALVE WILL BE CLOSED IF ALL THREE PUMPS ARE STOPPED.

BOILER FEED PUMP RECIRCULATION VALVE

AUTOMATIC LOW FLOW RECIRULATION CONTROL VALVE. THE VALVE WILL AUTOMATICALLY OPEN AT A SUCTION FEEDWATER FLOW OF 100,000 LBS/HR AND CLOSE WHEN THE FLOW REACHES 200,000 LBS/HR. THE RECIRCULATION CONTROL VALVE RETURNS FEEDWATER TO THE #3 DEAERATING HEATER.

MAIN AND REHEAT STEAM ATTEMPORATION

THE MAIN STEAM TEMPERATE IS CONTROLLED BY TWO SPRAY ATTEMPORATORS USING HIGH PRESSURE FEEDWATER FOR TEMPERING. THEY ARE LOCATED BETWEEN THE PRIMARY AND INTERMEDIATE SUPERHEATER SECTIONS OF THE BOILER. THE REHEAT STEAM TEMPERATURE IS CONTROLLED BY TWO SPRAY ATTEMPORATORS WHICH REGULATE THE AMOUNT OF SPRAY WATER TO THE REHEAT PIPING. THE SYSTEM IS USED TO PROTECT AGAINST EXCESSIVELY HIGH REHEAT TEMPERATURE.
