Crusades

Crusades definition: a medieval military expedition, one of a series made by Europeans to recover the Holy Land from the Muslims in the 11th, 12th, and 13th centuries. Cause of the Crusades - 3000 Christian Pilgrims massacred in Jerusalem, Religious Conviction, The Instinct to Fight, The Preaching of Peter the Hermit, The Threat of the Turks. The Council of Clermont led by Pope Urban II.Two major effects of the Crusades were that the king's' authority increased and the Europeans learned about new things from the Muslims they encountered. During the Crusades, the king's increased taxes to fund the cause. Many peasants also left their land to fight, and when they died, the land went to the king.They English killed many Muslims, in effort to convert them, but really it just expanded the english empire.

Islam/Christianity

Christianity and Islam both consider Jesus to be the Jewish Messiah of the Hebrew scripture. Christians generally consider Jesus to be the Son of God, while Muslims consider the Trinity to be a division of God's Oneness and a grave sin (shirk). Muslims believe Jesus (Isa) to be a messenger of God, not the son of God.They both have 1 god, but a major part of Islam is very strict monotheismThe Quran or Koran (Arabic: 'recitation'), revealed to the prophet Muhammad over a period of about 20 years. How the Mongols rose to power

Mongol expansion into Central Asia began in 1209, as the Mongols pursued tribal leaders who opposed Chinggis Khan's rise to power in Mongolia and thus constituted a threat to his authority there. With their victories, the Mongols gained new territory.Foremost, the Mongols produced a charismatic leader, Genghis Khan, who united the Mongol tribes in a dream of conquest and expansion.The Mongolian horse, a small and very tough infantry horse which could move very quickly and run long distances. Mongol troops were all horse-mounted and could move very quickly.The Mongol bow was a very small composite bow which could accurately shoot an arrow more than 200 yards. Combined with the fast-moving horse mounted infantry, the Mongols had a great advantage.Mongol tactics focused on speed and mobility. If a city quickly surrendered, they were lenient, but if it resisted, they were ruthless.The Mongols were fundamentally very adoptive.
