(1570's) Earl of Essex and Sir Thomas Smith received a grant to establish a settlement in Eastern Ulster. Resisted by the O'Neills and O'Donnells (1574) 200 members of the O'Neil clan were massacred (1575) 500 members of the O'Donnell clan were killed. |
