Amulius was a king. When he knew that he had twins, he threw them in a basket and put them in a river, hoping that they would drown but a she-wolf saved them and raised them.When they grew up, they built a city but they got in a big fight and Romulus killed Remus amd he became king of Rome.

Why was this myth important to the citizens of Rome?

They wanted to understand themselves and where they came from.

Why did this myth make sense to romans?

For them, it made sense that there city was built by demi-gods.

They defeated the Etruscans, the Samnites and the Greeks.

Who were the Patricians and the Plebians?

The Patricians were in the upper class of the republic and were often wealthy land owners or members of the Senate.


The Plebians were the lower class and they didn't have much power.

What was the Senate and who were the consuls?

The Senate was a group of 300 Patricians and they were the lawmakers of Rome. They were elected for life. Two of them were consuls. The consuls were elected for 1 year and ruled Rome. If they disahreed with eachother, one was chosen the consul and the other one became a member of the Senate.

Who was Julius Caesar and what did he do?

Julius Caesar was an army general loved by the citizens and the army of Rome. He ended the Republic and declared himself dictator for life.

Why did the Republic end?

It ended because the political regome couldn't adapt to such a huge empire, the senators were greedy and corrupt and people were more and more unhappy.
