What is an example of renewable energy?
Sun
What is the problem with renewable energy sources?
Some of them may be hard to find. For example, if you need water and there is a drought, you can not get any.
What are some examples of nonrenewable energy?
Fossil fuels such as coal, oil/petroleum and natural gas AND nuclear energy such as uranium and plutonium.
What exactly are Fossil Fuels?
A fuel derived from living things that have decomposed in the earth for millions of years.
How can using fossil fuels be bad?
The burning of fossil fuels creates pollution.
How does nuclear energy work?
a. Fuels such as uranium and plutonium are put into nuclear reactors
b. Nuclear reactors split atoms and release energy in the form of heat – this is called nuclear fission
c. This heat turns water into steam, which then powers a generator to make electricity (a generator is a machine by which energy is changed into electricity)
Are there any negatives to using nuclear energy?
Yes,
a. Nuclear power plants are expensive to build and require careful maintenance and disposal of radioactive waste
b. When not maintained safely, the cost to people’s health and the environment can be severe
How does urbanization impact the environment?
The fact that more people are joining an area requires more things to be built, more resources used, and most likely more pollution is released.
What are 3 differences between developed countries and developing countries?
Developed countries have better job/education opportunities, better medical care, and better infrastructure. Developing countries have less people, need for farm workers is greater, and not so good infrastructure.
