The Potsdam Conference

Stalin achieved domination of eastern Europe. By 1946 Baltic States were communist.



Later in 1947 Stalin introduced cominform that coordinated the work of communist parties.

Escalations

America dropped the policy of isolation. Roosevelt stated that every communist action would be met with an American reaction to stop Soviet communism.

Greece

In 1945 Churchill sent troops to supervise the elections and ended up supporting the monarhists over the communists in a civil war after Stalin protested and tried to take control. Britain couldn't afford a war so Truman stepped in only just victorious.

The Truman doctorine

USA would sent money equipment and advice to communist threatened countries to serve containment.


The Marshall plan in 1947 sent $17 billion to Europe.


Congress were hesitant but after antisoviet leaders were purged regarding communist take over in Czech_ they accepted.

Berlin Blockade

In 1946 the west combined their zones and introduced a new currency to steadily repare Germany. In 1948 Stalin blocked all supply lines to Berlin. The airlift meant planes could not be shot down without it being an act of war. After 1949 Stalin gave up and opened communication.
