Campaign To Suppress Counter Revolutionaries

(1950-1951)


Was launched at the same time the PLA entered North Korea. Mao used this as an excuse to remove possible threats to the regime at home.


Targeted:


Nationalists, academics, people who studied in the USA, Christian missionaries.


Tao Zhu (the tank) - responsible for killing 46,000 in 12 months (Guangxi province)


Mao suggested killing 1/1000 of local population.

5 Antis Campaign

( February - May 1952)


Targeted:


The bourgeoisie who remained in China after the revolution.


Bribery, tax evasion, theft of state property and spying


Encouraged workers organisations to accuse their employers of criminal activities. Tiger beaters gathered evidence against their employees.


Denunciation Boxes used to denounce members of the family.

Laogai System

Said the be places of re-education rather than punishment.
