A legislative body of the ancien regime made up of representatives from the third estates.

New governing body to replace Legislative Assembly; 750 men, mostly lawyers.


September 21,1792, first day of French Republic.


First act of the convention was to abolish the monarchy

Violent period. March 1793- July 1794. Revolutionary leaders accused and executed thousands of people considered "enemies" of the revolution.


Even if people agreed with revolution but not terror, they were still executed.
