What is terrorism?
Terrorism is the use of violence against people or property to try to force changes in societies or governments.
How do most terrorists work?
violence in high-profile places, places where ordinary people feel safe. Attacks in these places make people feel the most vulnerable.
What types of weapons do terrorists use?
At first, guns and bombs. Then chemical and biological weapons. Now, almost anything, including suicide bombers.
How has the motive changes for terrorists today?
Sometimes, instead of trying to change a policy, they are simply attacking targets anywhere in the world because they are considered EVIL, like JIHAD.
What is the US Patriot Act?
Congressional Act giving government powers to fight terrorism, including detaining foreigners, tapping phones, search warrants, looking into bank accounts. People worry that the Patriot Act gives the government the power to abuse citizen's civil rights.
What is the background on the war with Iraq?
Since 1979, Sadam Hussein brutally oppressed own people.
Hussein invaded Kuwait, US and allies took it back, win first Iraq war, Hussein agrees to end weapon production and allow UN inspection.
Late 1990's, Hussein violates UN rules, stops inspections.

2003, US and Britain lanuch attack in March, huge air assault, race to Baghdad. Initial fighting done in about 6 weeks, war continue today.

Reduce greenhouse gases to slow global warming v. jobs for economy.
