Which areas of SSA have high population?
Nigeria (demographic core), most of the West coast, Ethiopian highlands, Around Lake Victoria, Eastern South Africa, Rawanda, Marooni, Malawi, Brundi
Does SSA have high pop overall?
No. SSA is moderately populated with large areas of sparse population (esp in Southern Africa)
Which countries of SSA have really sparse pop?
Botswana, Namibia, E. Angola, Gabone, North Republic of Congo, Centra Africa's Eastern Side
Why is population scarce in some areas?
1. physical environment (dessert in Namibia, Botswana) not good for agriculture. 2. Rainforest not good for agriculture (Gabone, North Republic of Congo), 3. Disease (maleria, schistosomiasis, onchocerciasis, guinea worm, tsetse, HIV) 4. Salve Trade = people depletion
Where is Maleria Active?
Start of the Sahel zone to Top of Southern Africa (parts of Namibia, Botswana, S. Africa). Madagascar is heavily affected too.

Most of Namibia, S. Africa and East African Horn are not affected much (Somalia + Ethiopia)
Where is Schistosomiasis most active?
Prevelant all over Africa compared to rest of globe, but especially in Angola, Mozambique, Niger, Sierra Leone.
Where is River Blindness most prevelant?
Western Africa Heart (severely affected): Nigeria (highest), Cameron, Chad, Central Africa Republic

What is TseTse and where is it found the most?
TseTse is sleeping sickness (humans) and kills cows. It is spread by TseTse fly. Makes lands ungrazable, limits pastoral life. Prevalent in West + Central Africa + East Africa.
Where is Guinea Worm most Prevelant?
Northern Sub-Sahara Africa, From Sahel belt countries to contries above DR. Congo. D.R. Congo excluded. Uganda + Kenya included.
Where has the HIV/AIDs affected the most people?
Botswana + Swaziland. Hands down -- 30% with AIDs. South Africa comes in second. Then Namibia + Zimbabwe. The East Coast Countries + West Coat Countries in entire ring circling Gulf of Guinea.
