Legal and social changes. Each region of the U.K. instructed by the government to care for their mentally ill in lunatic asylums. Treatment of peace and games. Mentally ill viewed as treatable and requiring compassion. Encouraged to rest. 20th century - electroconvulsive therapy, lobotomies-ECT. Medication, antipsychotic drugs. TREATMENT- care in the community model. Asylums closed down and replaced by community mental health services. |
