Minocycline, sulfasalazaine, hydrochloroquine (plaquenil), intramuscular gold (myochrisin), penicillamine (distamine)
Older DMARD's
Azathioprine (imuran), cyclophosphamide, cyclosporine (neural, sandimmun)
Older immunosuppressant/cytotoxic DMARD's
Exert antirheumatic properties unrelated to antimicrobial effects, side effects include: vestibular toxicity, skin pigmentation, photosenitivity and rarely drug induced lupus
Tetracycline derivatives (minocycline)
Powerful metal chelator, also used to treat Wilson's disease, absorbed rapidly, but incompletely from intestine interfered with by food, iron compounds and antacids. Highly protein bound, excreted in kidneys, high toxicityL myositis, drug-induced lupus, rarely used now
Penicillamine
More efficacious than auranofin
Myochrisine (Both gold compounds)
