1. 1946, April 28th - Pestalozzi Children’s Village (Kinderdorf Pestalozzi):
In Trogen, Switzerland, opened the first Children’s Village in the spirit of Pestalozzi, a Swiss pedagogue and educational reformer. It accommodated and educated orphans of World War II according to Pestalozzian principles.

2. 1947, May 22nd - Begin of the Cold War:
President Harry S. Truman signs an Act of Congress that implements the Truman Doctrine, which grants $400 million military and economic aid to Greece and Turkey. It is an effort to battle the spread of Communism.

3. 1948, May 14th - Establishment of the State of Israel:
The “Israeli Declaration of Independence” was made the day before the British Mandate (a geopolitical entity created in Palestine under British administration) was due to expire. David Ben-Gurion, the Executive Head of the “World Zionist Organization” and the chairman of the “Jewish Agency for Palestine” declared the “establishment of a Jewish state” in Eretz-Israel. It is known as the State of Israel.

4. 1952, June 19th – The Special Forces of the Army of the United States are created:
They are also known as the “Green Berets” because of their distinctive service headgear. The United States Army Special Forces are a special operations force with five primary missions: unconventional warfare, foreign internal defense, special reconnaissance, direct action and counter-terrorism.
5. Discovery of the Structure of DNA
5. 1953, February 28th - Discovery of the Structure of DNA:
Two British scientists, Francis Crick and James Wilson published an article stating that they found out how living creatures reproduce themselves, which is known as the structure of the DNA. DNA is today the definitive measure of identity and heredity and it is being used to cure a wide range of generic diseases.
6. Rosenberg Trial
5. 1953, June 19th – Rosenberg Trial:
Ethel Greenglass Rosenberg and Julius Rosenberg, both American communists, were executed after being convicted for conspiracy to commit espionage during a time of war. They passed information about the atomic bomb to the Soviet Union. This was the first execution of civilians for espionage in the US History.

7. 1961, May 5th – Freedom 7, the first piloted Mercury spacecraft was launched:
Freedom 7 carried Astronaut Alan B. Shepard, Jr. and launched from Cape Canaveral to an altitude of 115 nautical miles and a range of 302 miles. During his 15-minute suborbital flight he proved that a human being can control a vehicle during weightlessness and high G stresses. Shepard reached a speed of 5,100 miles per hour and was the first American to fly in space.
8. The Cuban Missile Crises
8. 1962, October 14th – 18th - The Cuban Missile Crises:
The Cuban Missile Crisis was the closest the world ever came to nuclear war. When the US discovered Soviet nuclear missiles on Cuba, President John F. Kennedy demanded their removal and announced a naval blockade of the island. Two weeks later the Soviets removed their missiles and supporting systems from the island. An additional outcome of the negotiations was the creation of the Hotline Agreement and the Moscow-Washington hotline, a direct communications link between Moscow and Washington, D.C.

9. 1963, August 28th - Martin Luther King’s Speech:
Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his famous 17-minute public speech, delivered from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial during the “March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom”, known as “I Have A Dream”. In this speech he called for an end to discrimination, segregation and the implementation of racial equality.
10. The First Moon Landing, Apollo 11
10. 1969, July 21th - The First Moon Landing, Apollo 11:
Apollo 11, an American spaceflight, was the first manned mission to land on the moon. The astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first human beings to land on the Moon on July 20, 1969, at 20:18 UTC. Neil Armstrong became the first human being to set foot on the Moon 6 hours after the landing. 15 minutes later he was joined by his colleague, Buzz Aldring. The third member of the team, Michael Collins, orbited the moon in the mother ship Columbia.
11. Mother Teresa received the Nobel Prize
11. 1979 – Mother Teresa received the Nobel Peace Prize
Mother Teresa, a catholic nun founded the “Missionaries of Charity”, a Roman Catholic religious congregation which must adhere to the vows of chastity, poverty, obedience and “to give wholehearted and free service to the poorest of the poor”. For over 45 years Mother Teresa ministered to the poor, sick, orphaned and dying, first throughout India and then in other countries. When being given the Nobel Peace Prize, she refused the conventional ceremonial banquet and asked that the funds are being given to the poor in India.
12. Fall of the Berlin Wall
12. 1989, November 9th - Fall of the Berlin Wall:
The wall, which had separated the Soviet Bloc from the west for 28 years, came down. East Germany’s communist rulers allowed the gates to open after thousands of Germans from both sides of the wall, converged at crossing points and demanded to be let through. The Fall of the Berlin Wall symbolized the collapse of communism. Within a year, East and West Germany were reunited.
13. Invention of the WWW
13. 1991, August 6th - Invention of the WWW:
The first ever webpage was posted at 01:37 GMT in the afternoon by Tim Berners-Lee, an Oxford physics graduate. The content described how to set up your own webpages which would be accessible to anyone connected to the, then widely unknown, Internet. The Internet, a community of computer users who link their computers together to share information, and enabled everybody with an Internet accessible computer to share a vast amount of knowledge. Almost all the knowledge and information in the world is since then constantly available online.
14. Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center
14. 2001, September 11th - Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center:
19 terrorists from the Islamist militant group Al-Quaeda hijacked four passenger jets. They intentionally piloted two of those planes into the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York causing both towers to collapse within two hours. Furthermore they crashed one of the planes into the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia and intended to fly the fourth jet into a target in Washington, D.C.. The last plane crashed into a field in Pennsylvania. About 3,000 people died in the attacks.
15. Osama bin Laden killed
15. 2011, May 2nd – Osama bin Laden killed
Osama bin Laden, former head of the Islamist militant group Al-Quaeda, responsible for the September 11 Terrorist Attack on the World Trade Center, was killed in Abbottabad, Pakistan. He was shot shortly after 1am (local time) by Navy SEALs on the order of US President Barack Obama.
