monroe doctrine

The Monroe Doctrine is the best known U.S. policy toward the Western Hemisphere. Buried in a routine annual message delivered to Congress by President James Monroe in December 1823, the doctrine warns European nations that the United States would not tolerate further colonization or puppet monarchs.

bush doctrine

The Bush Doctrine refers to various related foreign policy principles of the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush. Charles Krauthammer first used the phrase in June 2001 to describe the Bush Administration's "...unilaterally withdrawing from the ABM treaty and rejecting the Kyoto protocol."

ghandi

born in 1869. assassinated by Nathuram Vinayak Godse in1948. led India's independence movement in the 1930s and 40s by speaking softly without carrying much of a big stick, facing down the British colonialists with stirring speeches and non-violent protest.

vietnam war

The Vietnam War (1955–75) was a Cold War conflict pitting the U.S. and the remnants of the French colonial government in South Vietnam against the indigenous but communist Vietnamese independence movement, the Viet Minh, following the latter's expulsion of the French in 1954.
