Gui Zhi & Bai Shao
Bai Shao: Yin
Gui Zhi: Yang
Harmonize yin and yang, qi and blood, ying and wei. Together they drain w/o damaging yin, while they contain yin without retaining evils. Also harmonize the vessels, relieve tension, and stop pain, as well as support ST yin and SP yang, while regulating the SP and ST.
Indications: Deficient type of exterior wind cold syndrome- h/a, fever, aversion to wind w/ sweat, nasal congestion, dry heaves, and floating moderate pulse.
Gui Zhi & Gan Cao
Combining pungent and sweet flavors produces Yang qi. Gui Zhi is used to enter the Heart and warm and unblock the Heart Yang. It is not used here to release the exterior. Gan Cao controls Gui Zhi to prevent it from inducing sweat and releasing the exterior. Together they warm and unblock the Heart Yang. Gan Cao also tonifies the SP and the Qi to help Gui Zhi build up the Qi.
Ju Hua & Gou Qi Zi
Nourish the LR, brighten the eyes, treat LR and KD deficiency with blurry vision. Together they clear out turbidity and then replenish.

Ju hua is sweet, bitter and sl cold. Goes to LR & LU, disperses wind heat, clears and anchors the liver. It doesn't dry the way that other clearing herbs can.

Gou Qi Zi is sweet & neutral. Goes to LR, LU & KD to tonify an dnourish, moisten the lung, brighten the eyes.
