-Rapid onset anticoagulant that exerts direct effect on blood coagulation by inhibiting antithrombin III on essential blood clotting factors=blocking conversion of prothrombin to thrombin to fibrin.
Indications
Prevent thrombus formation in AMI
Contraindications
-Active bleeding
-Pregnancy
-Hemophilia
Pre/SEs
-Spontaneous bleeding
-HTN
-HA
-Nasal congestion
-bronchospasm
Dosage
Adult 5000 units followed by 20k-40k units IV over 24 hours
PEDS- not indicated
Interactions
Flush IV before and after admin; may be incompatible w other meds.
